[2026-01-11]Global Food Price Index Falls by 0.6% in December 2025

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the global food price index in December 2025 was 124.3 points, down 0.6% from the previous month. Prices for vegetable oils, dairy products, and meat fell, while prices for cereals and sugar rose.

Despite a steady decline from 130.0 points in August 2025 to the end of the year, the average global food price index for 2025 was 127.2 points, 5.2 points (4.3%) higher than the 2024 average. Cereal prices rose 1.7% from the previous month to 107.3 points, and sugar prices rose 2.4% to 90.7 points.

On the other hand, vegetable oil prices fell 0.2% from the previous month to 164.6 points, and dairy prices fell 4.4% to 130.3 points. Meat prices also fell 1.3% from the previous month to 123.6 points.

Compared to the same month in 2024, cereal prices fell 3.7%, and sugar prices fell 24.0%. Vegetable oil prices rose 1.5%, and meat prices rose 3.4%. Dairy prices fell 7.7%.
