The Ministry of Health hosted a committee meeting in Seoul to discuss various plans to activate the use of medical data. The committee discussed data utilization plans for AI-based medical innovation and the opening and improvement of public data. Vice Minister Lee Hyung-hoon emphasized the establishment of legal and institutional foundations and called for strengthening social trust in the medical community.
Military clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have reoccurred at the border, prompting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue level 3 travel advisories (recommendation to leave) for the area. The special travel advisory for areas within 50km of the Thailand-Cambodia border has been upgraded to level 3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to monitor the situation in Thailand and Cambodia and assess the need for additional travel advisory adjustments.
The government will establish port and installation vessel infrastructure to support an annual 4GW of offshore wind power by 2030. Efforts by relevant ministries and industries target accumulating 25GW by 2035 and achieving a power generation cost of 150 won/kWh or lower, with detailed execution plans discussed. A mid- to long-term roadmap will be announced next year, and a bureau-level ‘Offshore Wind Power Promotion Team’ will be launched early this year.
South Korea has been confirmed to host the 4th UN Ocean Conference in June 2028. The UN Ocean Conference, which aims at the conservation and sustainable use of ocean resources, involves 193 member states. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to cooperate with the UN DESA for a successful conference.
