[2025-12-17]Ministry of Interior to Establish Citizen Participation Act and Communication Platform Next Year

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to enact the ‘Citizen Participation Basic Act’ next year and establish a national communication platform called ‘Everyone’s Square’ to systematically gather public opinions and suggestions. Additionally, they will designate and issue certificates for ‘National Sovereignty Day’ and resume awards for contributions to the development of democracy. They also plan to fully support the launch of a unified special city with high autonomy to overcome the one-pole system in the metropolitan area.

On the 17th, the Ministry announced these plans at the Government Sejong Convention Center, including the ‘Major Work Promotion Plan of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.’ The year 2026 marks the second year of the Lee Jae-myung administration, a crucial period for achieving substantial results. The Ministry presented three policy directions, five key tasks, and two additional tasks to realize the goal of ‘Plus for People’s Lives, Reliable Happiness and Safety Ministry.’

One of the key tasks is to complete the ‘Nation of the People,’ aiming for just social integration. They will pursue a joint apology and legislative support for recovery for human rights violations in past collective facilities like Seongam Academy. They will also support the launch of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency to complete prosecution reform and continue efforts to eradicate hate banners and build infrastructure for coexistence with foreign residents.

Another key task is to implement an ‘AI Democratic Government,’ introducing ‘AI National Secretary’ and ‘AI Government 24’ to provide public services easily and establish a one-stop system for handling and resolving complaints. They will also expand the government-wide AI common foundation and intelligent work management platform to all central and local governments, enhancing work efficiency and policy quality in the public sector, thereby actively supporting the transition to a competent AI-based government.
