[2025-12-12]Korea and China to Strengthen Cooperation in Traditional Medicine

The Ministry of Health and Welfare held the 18th Korea-China Traditional Medicine Cooperation Coordination Committee meeting in Beijing, China, on December 12, to discuss strengthening the global competitiveness of traditional medicine. The meeting focused on the development of the traditional medicine industry based on AI and big data and expanding exchanges between the two countries.

Since the first committee was established in 1995, Korea and China have led the development of global traditional medicine through 18 meetings, continuing technical exchanges and cooperation projects in the field of traditional medicine. Prior to the meeting, they visited Seowon Hospital in Beijing to strengthen healthcare cooperation and foster friendly relations between the two countries.

The main agenda of the meeting included strengthening academic and research cooperation and personnel exchanges in traditional medicine, expanding traditional medicine exchanges in the public health sector, promoting the development of the Korea-China traditional medicine industry based on AI and big data, and global traditional medicine cooperation, with practical implementation plans being established.

The agreement also included responding to social changes such as low birth rates and aging populations by exchanging data, policy information, and experts related to traditional medicine, jointly promoting the establishment of a traditional medicine industry base using AI and big data, and strengthening information technology exchanges and joint research. The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to continue promoting joint research, facilitating the exchange of professional personnel, and supporting industrialization through the Korea-China Traditional Medicine Cooperation Coordination Committee meeting to be held in December 2025.
