[2025-12-17]Korea Disease Control Agency to Revamp Traveler Health Screening System

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) will expand its quarantine system from focusing solely on blocking infectious diseases to also emphasizing traveler health prevention and information provision. The KDCA plans to gradually implement AI-based quarantine systems, provide customized health information for travelers, and strengthen hygiene management of transportation means.

This initiative aims to fulfill the Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s national agenda of improving the infectious disease crisis response system, with the goal of institutionalization by 2027. The KDCA intends to establish a quarantine system capable of providing prevention and information during normal times and rapid response during crises to address the risks of infectious diseases associated with increased international travel.

The KDCA plans to establish a platform called ‘Travel Health Alert e’ by next year to provide integrated health information needed before, during, and after travel. Additionally, a traveler-friendly quarantine system utilizing AI and data will be introduced, and a multilingual system will be applied to allow foreigners to conveniently report symptoms.

The KDCA will also strengthen the management of environments where infectious diseases occur. The issuance procedure for the Ship Sanitation Certificate, an international standard for ship hygiene management, will be standardized, and aircraft hygiene management will be enhanced. Furthermore, a comprehensive quarantine management manual will be prepared to respond to the next pandemic, and public communication will be strengthened.
