[2025-12-12]Busan’s Hwamyeong and Haeundae Districts Selected for Urban Renewal

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Busan Metropolitan City announced the selection of 7,318 households in Hwamyeong-Gumgok and Haeundae districts for urban renewal.
This is the first case of urban renewal in provincial areas following the selection of 37,000 households in five first-phase new towns last year.
The Ministry plans to establish the Busan Future City Support Center next year and actively support future project procedures, including the designation of special maintenance zones.

Korea and China have signed an MOU to strengthen service trade cooperation and will discuss ways to expand service trade.
The two countries will hold a joint committee on the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement to seek ways to enhance FTA implementation and continue communication for the smooth introduction of key supply chain items such as rare earths.
They also discussed cooperation to revitalize local economies and investment cooperation, and agreed to hold regular meetings to prevent misunderstandings and conflicts arising from trade remedy measures.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced plans to start construction of over 50,000 homes in the Seoul metropolitan area and initiate the first move-ins for the third new towns next year.
Additionally, to revitalize local areas, the ministry will announce the second phase of public institution relocations and expand local transportation infrastructure such as roads, railways, and airports.
The ministry also plans to enhance housing welfare by expanding public rental housing for various income groups and providing tailored housing support for different life stages.

The Ministry of Education announced that it will expand the target for free education and care support from 5-year-olds to 4-year-olds starting next year.
Additionally, the teacher-child ratio for 0-year-old classes will be improved, and the number of care institutions in vulnerable areas will be significantly increased.
To foster AI talent, the ministry plans to introduce fast-track programs for innovative bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and strengthen various supports.

The government has designated manual therapy, percutaneous epidural neuroplasty, and radiotherapy for managed care benefits. The Non-covered Medical Services Management Policy Council made this decision to address the issue of excessive treatments in non-covered services. The criteria and pricing for managed care benefits will be decided through the Health Insurance Policy Deliberation Committee.

South Korea’s K2 tank has made its first entry into Latin America. The Peruvian army and South Korean defense contractors signed a framework agreement to supply 54 K2 tanks and 141 wheeled armored vehicles, totaling 195 ground equipment units. This export represents the largest defense export to Latin America, with implementation contracts expected to be finalized next year.
