[2026-01-11]Global Food Price Index Decreases by 0.6% in December 2025

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the global food price index in December 2025 recorded 124.3 points, a 0.6% decrease from the previous month. Prices for oils, dairy products, and meat fell, while prices for grains and sugar rose.

FAO surveys international price trends for 24 items and publishes the food price index for five categories monthly. In December 2025, the grain index was 107.3 points, up 1.7% from the previous month, while the oil index was 164.6 points, down 0.2%. The meat index was 123.6 points, down 1.3%, and the dairy index was 130.3 points, down 4.4%. The sugar index was 90.7 points, up 2.4%.

Despite the global food price index steadily declining from 130.0 points in August 2025 to the end of the year, the average global food price index for 2025 was 127.2 points, 5.2 points (4.3%) higher than the average for 2024.
