[2026-01-11]Civil Defense Sirens to Sound in Disaster Situations from February

Starting in February, ‘civil defense alarm sirens’ will sound in cases of urgent resident evacuation due to typhoons, floods, heavy rains, and wildfires. The government previously operated civil defense alarm sirens only in situations of enemy attacks or tsunamis, but due to the frequent occurrence of rapid wildfires and extreme heavy rains requiring urgent resident evacuation, they have decided to expand the operation of disaster alarm sirens.

Since sirens are an effective means of raising residents’ awareness in urgent situations, it is expected that quick evacuation dissemination will be possible through sirens along with TV, radio, and disaster text messages when emergency evacuation is needed. Meanwhile, this year, the government has improved the participation fees for reserve forces training to match social awareness levels for reservists who faithfully fulfill their military duties even after discharge.

As a result, the mobilization training fees for reservists in their 1st to 4th years will be increased, and a ‘regional reserve training fee’ will be newly established, providing 20,000 won for basic and operational training attendance for reservists in their 5th to 6th years. Additionally, the meal allowance for reservists has been increased from 8,000 won last year to 9,000 won this year to ensure better training conditions.

Starting in February, the ‘livelihood account system,’ which prohibits the seizure of funds to ensure the basic livelihood of debtors, will be implemented, and the scope of seizure prohibition for wage claims and guaranteed insurance payments will be expanded. The minimum amount for seizure-prohibited wage claims will be raised from 1.85 million won to 2.5 million won per month, and the seizure-prohibited amount for death insurance payments will be increased from 10 million won to 15 million won.
