[2025-12-17]Saemangeum Industrial Complex to Build Advanced Strategic Industry Ecosystem

The Saemangeum Development Agency held a briefing session on December 16 to support the participation of companies within the Saemangeum Industrial Complex in the secondary battery brine wastewater treatment technology development project and to form an industry-academia-research consortium. This project, promoted by the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment, aims to safely and environmentally treat the increasing brine wastewater resulting from the growth of the secondary battery industry.

To achieve this, five detailed tasks for the development of zero-discharge and public treatment technologies for secondary battery brine wastewater will be pursued, with a total of 37 billion won in national funding to be invested over five years from 2026 to 2030. The Saemangeum Development Agency plans to support the efficient formation of a consortium by explaining the project direction to research institutions and guiding companies on how to establish cooperative systems.

Namkoong Jae-yong, Director of the Development Project Bureau, stated, “The Saemangeum Industrial Complex is the optimal place for developing and demonstrating standardized brine wastewater treatment technologies, as it houses various secondary battery companies. We will strive to actively encourage the participation of companies through this briefing session.”
