President Lee Jae-myung emphasized on the 16th that state affairs should be transparently disclosed to the public to ensure that people-centered governance is properly implemented. In his opening remarks at the 54th Cabinet meeting held at the Government Complex Sejong, President Lee noted that public interest in the first-ever live broadcast of the work report is very high.
President Lee acknowledged that civil servants in various ministries might not be accustomed to the new method, but stressed that the policy process must be transparently verified and collective intelligence gathered to increase trust in policies and the completeness of state affairs. He explained that the reason for conducting work reports in front of the public under the current administration is to substantiate ‘people’s sovereignty’.
President Lee made it clear that special rewards would be given to public officials who demonstrate exceptional dedication and achievements. He instructed that follow-up measures be promptly implemented to ensure that outstanding public officials receive appropriate rewards, and requested continuous research and review of additional solutions to improve the treatment of public officials.
President Lee also mentioned the need for a paradigm shift in policies to address polarization. He stated that to alleviate polarization, policies must be boldly shifted towards fair and sustainable growth. He emphasized the importance of building an economic ecosystem that promotes solidarity and cooperation among social members, and requested thorough research on measures to activate the social solidarity economy.
