The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the ‘2025 Specialized Cluster Performance Sharing Conference’ in Osco, Chungbuk from the 15th to the 16th, and announced that Chungbuk’s secondary battery specialized cluster and Busan’s power semiconductor specialized cluster were selected as this year’s excellent clusters.
This event, now in its second year, was organized to comprehensively evaluate the investment attraction performance, core technology localization achievements, and infrastructure construction status of each cluster since the government’s designation of specialized clusters. This year, it was held in conjunction with the performance sharing conference for infrastructure and manpower development projects, enhancing synergy.
Chungbuk attracted a total of 5 trillion won in private investment based on LG Energy Solution’s large-scale investment, achieving about five times the target amount. Additionally, it established and began full operation of the ‘Battery Solution Test Zone (BST Zone)’ supporting the entire cycle of secondary batteries.
Busan successfully established the SiC power semiconductor ecosystem, with SK Powertech’s new Busan plant starting full operation. IQ Lab also completed the construction of the first domestic 8-inch power semiconductor production line, and the city received praise for training 1,200 specialists and successfully hosting the International Silicon Carbide Conference attended by about 2,200 people from 35 countries.
