[2025-12-16]Restoration of Eastern Wall of Jongmyo Completed

The Jongmyo Shrine Management Office of the Cultural Heritage Administration’s Royal Palaces and Tombs Division completed the maintenance work on approximately 80 meters of the eastern wall of the World Heritage Jongmyo Shrine on December 8. The Jongmyo wall is an important structure that demarcates the ritual space and has suffered from cracks and deformations due to continuous weathering and drainage issues.

Since 2013, the Jongmyo Shrine Management Office has been conducting phased maintenance on the eastern and western walls. This year, they carried out reinforcement, crack repair, detachment repair, drainage improvement, and surrounding maintenance on approximately 80 meters of the eastern wall. Traditional repair techniques were applied to minimize damage to the original form.

This maintenance has significantly enhanced the historical landscape and structural safety of the World Heritage Jongmyo Shrine. The office will continue to conduct regular inspections and systematic management to create an environment where the public can visit with confidence.
