[2025-12-16]Personal Information Commission Announces Enhanced Protection Measures for Public Institutions

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), chaired by Song Kyung-hee, held a ‘Public Institution Personal Information Protection Measures Briefing’ on December 15 at the LW Convention Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. The briefing was organized to establish a preemptive risk prevention system in the public sector in response to various personal information leakage incidents occurring in both the private and public sectors.

The briefing focused on evaluating the level of personal information protection to identify vulnerabilities, sharing best and poor practices of personal information impact assessments, introducing new AI impact assessment standards, and strengthening safety measures for public systems. The PIPC presented specific cases to help public institutions diagnose and improve their own personal information protection vulnerabilities and distributed a collection of best practices.

Key cases of personal information impact assessments were also shared with attendees to ensure safe personal information processing by mitigating risk factors from the design stage of the information processing process. Additionally, in line with the recent spread of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the PIPC introduced AI impact assessment standards and proactive protection measures in new technology environments.

The PIPC explained the strengthened safety measures that public system operating institutions handling large-scale personal information must comply with and shared recent best practices from public system inspections. The PIPC emphasized that all institutions handling personal information must establish a prevention-focused protection system in their daily operations and highlighted the purpose of the briefing.
