The National AI Strategy Committee has unveiled an action plan to achieve the world’s number one position in physical AI by 2030. The plan focuses on expanding data centers and accelerating AI transformation in key industries, emphasizing execution across multiple government departments. The committee held a press conference on the 15th to mark its 100th day since its establishment and explained its major achievements and plans.
The committee, which was launched on September 8, is the highest national AI strategy body and approved the direction of the AI action plan at its first plenary meeting. The plan, developed through intense discussions and consultations with various government departments, includes 98 tasks. It is structured around three main policy pillars: creating an AI innovation ecosystem, a nationwide AI-based transformation, and contributing to a global AI foundational society, supported by 12 strategic areas.
To create an AI innovation ecosystem, the plan includes expanding data centers using advanced GPUs and domestic AI semiconductors and introducing a proactive security inspection system using white hackers. It also aims to secure core AI technologies and data to achieve the top position in physical AI by 2030. The plan includes establishing a continuous AI education system from elementary to high school and linking and optimizing AI talent development projects across various government departments.
The committee will collect public opinions on the AI action plan by posting it on its website for 20 days and will also gather feedback from academia, industry, and civil society. The final plan will be confirmed at the second plenary meeting after incorporating the feedback. Vice Chairman Moon-Young Lim emphasized that the committee will closely monitor and adjust the implementation by each department to ensure successful outcomes.
