[2025-12-16]Ministry of Climate and Energy to Host Battery Recycling Policy Forum

The Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment announced that it will hold a ‘Battery Recycling Policy Forum’ on December 16 at the National Battery Recycling Cluster in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. This forum is organized to share the current status of major policies for promoting the recycling of used batteries and to seek ways to foster the industry.

About 100 experts from electric vehicle and battery manufacturers, recycling and reuse companies, related associations and organizations, research institutions, and local governments are expected to attend the forum. In the first part, the current status of the user-customized corporate support platform of the National Battery Recycling Cluster, the direction of promoting the battery recycled material production certification system, and the current status of the integrated environmental information center for the entire life cycle of electric vehicles will be presented. A tour of the Resource Recycling Research Center within the cluster will introduce battery performance and diagnostic equipment, and recycling demonstration facilities.

In the second part, the research results on the recycling value evaluation of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, the current status of research and development (R&D) in the field of used battery recycling, the expansion plan of the future waste resource collection center to strengthen industry support, and the current status of the battery inline automatic performance evaluation center will be presented and discussed comprehensively.

The Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment established the ‘Battery Recycling Promotion Plan’ last May, and this forum will share the progress of key tasks with industry, academia, and research experts, and reflect on future policies and system improvements through in-depth discussions. Kim Go-eung, Director of the Resource Recycling Bureau of the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment, stated, ‘Stable recycling of used batteries, a key resource in the circular economy in the era of carbon neutrality, is directly linked to national competitiveness,’ and added, ‘We will provide maximum support for our companies to gain international competitiveness and grow by strengthening cooperation among industry, academia, and research centered on the National Battery Recycling Cluster.’
