LG Energy Solution’s patent for ‘electrode assembly and electrode assembly manufacturing device’ was registered as the first ‘advanced technology fast-track patent’ just 19 days after applying for fast-track examination. Haechun Chemical Co., Ltd.’s patent for ‘eco-friendly de-icing agent containing biomass’ was also registered as the first ‘export promotion fast-track patent’ 21 days after applying for fast-track examination.
The Intellectual Property Office announced that it will hold a certificate award ceremony for the first patents registered after the implementation of the fast-track examination at the Seoul Station conference room. The fast-track examination system significantly shortens the examination period to help export companies secure domestic intellectual property rights early, allowing them to establish overseas expansion strategies in a timely manner.
This event was organized to invite companies that have used the fast-track examination system to review its progress and listen to difficulties and suggestions from the export field regarding the overall patent system, reflecting them in future system improvements. The Intellectual Property Office will award patent certificates to LG Energy Solution and Haechun Chemical, which received patent decisions 19 and 21 days after applying for fast-track examination, respectively, and share experiences with companies that have used the system.
Currently, 128 applications have been submitted for fast-track examination, with 5 receiving registration decisions, taking an average of 25.1 days. Next year, the number of fast-track examinations will be expanded to 2,000 each for export promotion and advanced technology fields, and the limit on the number of applications per company in the export promotion field will be abolished. The head of the Intellectual Property Office stated that securing domestic patents early is the first step in overcoming protectionist barriers and entering overseas markets, and they will continue to support export expansion by shortening examination periods and improving examination quality.
