[2025-12-16]Joint Training on Microsatellite System Operation and Utilization Held

The Korea Coast Guard, the Korea Aerospace Administration, and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute announced that they jointly held the ‘4th Micro-Satellite System Operation and Utilization Joint Training’ from December 15 to 16 to discuss ways to enhance the efficient operation and utilization of the micro-satellite system currently under development. About 100 officials from government departments, research institutions, and experts attended the training to discuss the successful development and utilization of the micro-satellite system.

The Korea Coast Guard and the Korea Aerospace Administration have been promoting the development of the micro-satellite system to protect maritime sovereignty and respond to disasters by establishing the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) system. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute is responsible for developing the utilization system for satellite information fusion and analysis. The workshop shared the progress of the ground system and utilization system development and included expert presentations and discussions on the latest technology trends.

The workshop featured in-depth discussions on various latest technology trends, including radar (SAR) and automatic identification system (AIS) payloads, AI-based multi-satellite utilization monitoring, and marine remote sensing analysis technology. Yeo Seong-su, Director of the Coast Guard, emphasized the critical role of satellites in establishing the MDA system and the importance of continuous cooperation.

Kim Jin-hee, Director of the Satellite Division at the Korea Aerospace Administration, stated that the workshop would actively support the enhancement of the micro-satellite system for rapid disaster response and public safety. She also expressed hope that securing core space technologies and providing opportunities for domestic launch vehicles would contribute to the growth of the domestic space industry.
