[2025-12-15]Launch of the Social Reform Committee and Policy Forum

The Social Grand Reform Committee held a policy forum for the establishment of reform tasks at the National Assembly Museum on December 15. This committee is an advisory body under the Prime Minister, where civil society, political parties, and the government participate together to discuss social reform tasks. It serves as an institutional mechanism to connect reform demands raised by civil society and political parties to the government’s official policy discussion system.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Democratic Party floor leader Kim Byung-gi, Progressive Party chairperson Kim Jae-yeon, Basic Income Party leader Yong Hye-in, and Social Democratic Party leader Han Chang-min, along with the first chairman of the Social Grand Reform Committee, Park Seok-woon, and honorary chairman of the Free Press Practice Foundation, Lee Bu-young. Prime Minister Kim emphasized that an official communication platform has been established where civil society, political parties, and the government can come together to discuss and seek solutions for reform tasks.

Chairman Park Seok-woon stated that the committee was the result of the agreement and announcement of the 5.9 joint declaration by the Square Presidential Election Coalition and five political parties. He emphasized that the committee, as a governance system involving civil society and political parties, will be launched and will deeply discuss and agree on the implementation plans for related policy tasks. The representatives of each political party also emphasized the significance of the committee’s launch in their congratulatory speeches.

Following the inauguration ceremony, a policy forum was held with Professor Kim Kwi-ok of Hansung University as the moderator, and Kim Bo-kyung, Secretary-General of the Social Democratic Party, Ahn Sung-yong, co-representative of the Christian National Assembly, and Lee Na-young, chairperson of the Justice Memory Foundation, participated in a discussion on ‘Suggestions for the Establishment and Implementation of Social Grand Reform Agenda.’ The committee plans to operate various online and offline events to discover reform tasks, set and promote discussed tasks, and hold national reporting conferences to inform the public of progress and achievements.
