[2025-12-15]Korean Dairy Genetic Resources Approved for Export to Mongolia

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that quarantine negotiations for the export of Korean dairy cattle genetic resources to Mongolia were completed on December 10, making exports possible. This negotiation was conducted in cooperation with the Rural Development Administration and involved consultations with Mongolian authorities.

Korean dairy cattle produce an average of 32 liters of milk per day, ranking 8th in the world. Korean dairy cattle genetic resources have been exported to developing countries such as Nepal and Kyrgyzstan, where they are used in livestock improvement projects to enhance local milk productivity.

Mongolia is actively introducing Korea’s excellent dairy cattle genetic resources, with representatives from the Mongolian Veterinary Authority and the Livestock Genetic Resources Center visiting Korea to sign an agreement on export quarantine conditions. The first export is expected to begin as early as the first half of next year.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated that this quarantine agreement is the result of the Mongolian government’s high evaluation of Korea’s quarantine system and dairy cattle improvement technology. Additionally, the Rural Development Administration has agreed to establish a long-term cooperation system with Mongolian institutions.
