A government delegation led by former National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo attended the ‘International Year of Peace and Trust Forum’ held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, on December 12. This forum was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s recognition of its permanent neutrality status by the United Nations.
The forum was attended by representatives from various countries, including the leaders of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives from international organizations such as UNDP, OSCE, and SCO. During the forum, Kim Jin-pyo met with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Supreme Leader of Turkmenistan, to discuss ways to expand practical cooperation between the two countries, including the upcoming Korea-Central Asia Summit next year.
Kim Jin-pyo also held in-depth discussions on fostering local talent, including Korean language education, to support the activities of Korean companies operating in Turkmenistan. Additionally, he met with Mammethan Chakiyev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, to discuss ways to expand practical cooperation in areas such as education and new city infrastructure.
Kim Jin-pyo was awarded the 30th Anniversary Commemorative Medal of Permanent Neutrality by Supreme Leader Berdimuhamedov in recognition of his contributions to promoting friendly cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries. The delegation’s participation in the forum is evaluated as contributing to strengthening the foundation for human exchanges and mutually beneficial practical cooperation between the two countries ahead of next year’s Korea-Central Asia Summit.
