[2025-12-14]Busan’s Hwamyeong and Haeundae Districts Selected for Urban Renewal

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Busan Metropolitan City announced on the 12th that they have selected 7,318 households in the Hwamyeong-Geumgok and Haeundae districts of Busan as pilot districts for the renovation of aging planned cities. This includes 2,624 households in 12 zones of Hwamyeong-Geumgok (Kolon Sky 1st and 2nd) and 4,694 households in 2 zones of Haeundae (Doosan 1st, LG, Daelim 1st).

This is the first case of renovating aging planned cities in local areas since the selection of 37,000 households in five first-phase new towns last year. The Ministry plans to actively support the future business procedures, such as the designation of special renovation zones and approval of business implementation plans, by establishing the Busan Future City Support Center in the first half of next year.

Additionally, the Ministry and Busan City plan to jointly promote meticulous housing supply management to support stable relocation without instability in the rental market during the renovation process. Meanwhile, Daejeon and Incheon are also actively pursuing the selection of pilot districts.

Daejeon started the public inspection of the basic plan (draft) for two districts, including 7,500 households in Dunsan and 3,000 households in Songchon, Jungri, and Beopdong, on the 28th of last month, and began the pilot district contest. Incheon started the public inspection of the basic plan (draft) for five districts, including 6,300 households in Yeonsu and Seonhak, 2,700 households in Guwol, 2,400 households in Gyesan, 1,650 households in Galsan, Bupyeong, and Bugae, and 2,550 households in Mansu 1, 2, and 3, on the 8th and will begin the pilot district contest on the 15th.
