[2025-12-13]Korea Coast Guard Wins Bronze at Personnel Innovation Contest

The Korea Coast Guard (Commissioner Kim Yong-jin) announced that it won the bronze prize (Director of Personnel Innovation Award) at the Government-wide Personnel Innovation Best Practices Competition held on the 10th. This year’s competition, organized by the Ministry of Personnel Management, received a total of 122 best practice submissions from central administrative agencies, provincial and municipal education offices, and public institutions, with nine cases, including the Korea Coast Guard, making it to the final round.

The Korea Coast Guard’s submission, ‘Reconstruction of the Promotion Point System for the Korea Coast Guard,’ was highly praised for its major overhaul of the promotion point system. The system reduced the number of qualification types from about 200 to 36 based on job relevance, and introduced new points for professional positions and multi-child rearing public servants.

Commissioner Kim Yong-jin stated, “We have considered how to enhance both individual growth and organizational competitiveness through this revision of the promotion point system.” He added, “We will continue to innovate our personnel system to create an environment where we can focus more on our work and become a truly effective Korea Coast Guard.”

The Korea Coast Guard plans to amend the relevant laws and implement the new system in earnest from 2028, after a one-year grace period to protect the trust of current and preparing employees.
