[2025-12-13]Korea and China to Strengthen Cooperation in Traditional Medicine

The Ministry of Health and Welfare held the 18th Korea-China Traditional Medicine Cooperation Coordination Committee in Beijing, China, on December 12 to discuss cooperation to strengthen the global competitiveness of traditional medicine. The meeting focused on the development direction of the traditional medicine industry based on AI and big data and the expansion of exchanges between the two countries.

Since the first committee was launched in 1995, Korea and China have led the development of global traditional medicine through 18 rounds of technical exchanges and cooperation projects in the field of traditional medicine. Prior to the meeting, representatives from both countries visited Seowon Hospital in Beijing to strengthen healthcare cooperation and foster friendly relations.

The main meeting discussed key agendas such as strengthening academic and research cooperation and personnel exchanges in traditional medicine, expanding traditional medicine exchanges in the public health sector, promoting the development of the Korea-China traditional medicine industry based on AI and big data, and global traditional medicine cooperation. Notably, it included data and policy information exchanges to respond to social changes such as low birth rates and aging populations, and the establishment of a traditional medicine industry base using AI and big data.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to continuously promote joint research expansion, professional personnel exchanges, and industrialization support between the two countries, taking advantage of the Korea-China Traditional Medicine Cooperation Coordination Committee scheduled for December 2025. Through this, it aims to enhance the international status of traditional medicine and establish a global cooperation model that contributes to public health improvement and healthcare development.
