[2025-12-12]Busan’s Hwamyeong and Haeundae Districts Selected for Urban Renewal

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Busan Metropolitan City announced on the 12th that they have selected 7,318 households in Hwamyeong-Gumgok District and Haeundae District in Busan as pilot districts for the renovation of aging planned cities. This includes 2,624 households in 12 zones (Kolon Sky 1st and 2nd) in Hwamyeong-Gumgok District and 4,694 households in 2 zones (Doosan 1st, LG, Daelim 1st) in Haeundae District.

This is the first case of renovating aging planned cities in local areas since the selection of 37,000 households in five first-phase new towns last year. The Ministry plans to establish the Busan Future City Support Center in the first half of next year and actively support the designation of special renovation zones and the approval of project implementation plans.

Additionally, the Ministry and Busan City plan to jointly manage housing supply to support stable relocation without causing instability in the rental market during the renovation process. Meanwhile, Daejeon and Incheon are also actively pursuing the selection of pilot districts.

Daejeon has started public viewing of the basic plan (draft) for 7,500 households in Dunsan District and 3,000 households in Songchon, Jungri, and Beopdong Districts, and has begun the pilot district selection process. Incheon has started public viewing of the basic plan (draft) for 6,300 households in Yeonsu and Seonhak Districts and plans to start the pilot district selection process on the 15th.
