Jinah Kim, the Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, held the 10th Senior Economic Dialogue with Jacob Helberg, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, in Washington on December 10. Vice Minister Kim evaluated that the strategic trade and investment agreement reached between the two countries presented a blueprint for future cooperation and emphasized the need for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of State to work closely together to ensure smooth implementation of these agreements in a mutually beneficial manner. She explained Korea’s implementation status, including the proposal of special legislation for the execution of $350 billion strategic investment, and requested the Department of State’s role in this matter.

Assistant Secretary Helberg assessed that the strategic trade and investment agreement between the two countries would ensure fair trade and contribute to strengthening the economic partnership and strategic cooperation between the two nations. He stated that today’s SED meeting served as a significant occasion to advance the implementation of these agreements and to promote the prosperity and security of both countries, further solidifying the US-Korea alliance.

Additionally, the two countries agreed to initiate practical consultations between the diplomatic authorities focusing on shipbuilding, energy, and critical minerals. Vice Minister Kim will meet with Korean companies and public institutions operating in the US on December 11 to listen to their difficulties and discuss government support measures.
