[2025-12-11]National Heritage Administration Holds 2nd Preliminary Cultural Heritage Contest Awards

The National Heritage Administration (Director Heo Min) will hold an award ceremony for the seven outstanding cases selected in the ‘2nd Preliminary Cultural Heritage Discovery Contest’ at 10 a.m. on December 16 at the Government Daejeon Complex (Seo-gu, Daejeon). This contest received cultural heritage that has been produced or formed for less than 50 years from central ministries, local governments, and the private sector.

A total of 103 entries consisting of 1,916 items were submitted, and a comprehensive evaluation including document and on-site reviews, contestant presentation competitions, and online public voting was conducted. Seven outstanding cases were finally selected, including one grand prize, four excellence prizes, and two encouragement prizes. The selected cases cover various fields, including ‘Mountaineer Kim Hong-bin’s climbing materials,’ which have significant value in the history of Korean disabled sports.

Excellence prizes include the manuscript and TV animation script of the cartoon ‘Dokgo Tak,’ the relics of artist Lee Ung-no, the handwritten inaugural speech of the magazine ‘Deep Rooted Tree,’ and the declaration of democracy struggle and coverage manuscript during the Buma Democratic Movement. Encouragement prizes were given to records of explorer Heo Young-ho’s Antarctic exploration and medical equipment used by dispatched nurses in Germany.

Awardees will receive the National Heritage Administration Director’s award and prize money. The seven selected cases will also be prioritized for review for preliminary cultural heritage designation in the future. The National Heritage Administration plans to continuously create various communication opportunities to develop and operate the preliminary cultural heritage system effectively.
