Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Kim Sung-hwan will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Jeonnam Offshore Wind Farm Phase 1 held on December 11 at Ramada Plaza, Jaeundo, Shinan-gun, Jeonnam Province. The project is led by the joint venture between SK Innovation ENS and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
Jeonnam Offshore Wind Farm Phase 1 is a 96MW offshore wind farm located approximately 9km offshore from Jaeundo. It was the first project selected under the wind power competitive bidding system introduced in 2022. The project is considered a model example of overcoming various regulations and interests through cooperation between the government, local authorities, and private companies.
As a community participation project, it shares part of the profits with local residents, and numerous local companies from Sinan and Mokpo participated in the construction process, contributing to regional economic revitalization. Minister Kim emphasized that offshore wind power is a key means for a decarbonized green civilization and stated that the inauguration will be a catalyst for domestic offshore wind power expansion.
Minister Kim also stressed the importance of implementing the policy tasks announced during the joint press conference on December 10 for expanding and promoting offshore wind power infrastructure, accelerating domestic offshore wind power adoption, and supporting the industry’s continued growth.
