요약 본문

On December 11, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the Korea NCP Committee and announced the adoption of the final statement on the OECD multinational enterprise guidelines regarding the case against Oxy Reckitt Benckiser, concluding the matter. The committee included the chairman (Director of Investment Policy at the Ministry), government officials, and private representatives.

The case involves individual consumers filing a complaint against Oxy Reckitt Benckiser for consumer protection violations related to the manufacture and sale of humidifier disinfectants. Despite three mediation attempts, the complainants’ request for additional compensation for ‘non-grade’ victims and the company’s stance that compensation for direct victims has already been completed led to no agreement, thus ending the case.

The Korea NCP pointed out in the final statement that the respondent neglected the verification of product safety and falsely labeled their products, causing health damage to consumers. The respondent was recommended to improve internal policies to meet OECD guidelines, actively participate in government-led victim relief procedures, and communicate with ‘non-grade’ victims for practical relief. Compliance with recommendations and performance submission were also urged.

The final statement will be posted on the Korean NCP website.
