The strategy announcements addressed changes in the semiconductor industry’s landscape in the AI era and Korea’s vision and strategy for semiconductor industry development.

Minister Kim Jung-Gwan of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy presented the semiconductor industry strategy for the AI era, detailing key objectives. He emphasized maintaining super gap technology in memory and creating a new gap in AI specialized technology. Plans include investing heavily in NPU development, establishing a collaborative foundry, fostering the world’s No. 1 material and component industries, establishing a semiconductor graduate school, and building the Southern Semiconductor Innovation Belt.

During the discussion, experts emphasized the need to strengthen competitiveness in system semiconductors and materials and components sectors. Chip manufacturing companies highlighted the importance of promoting semiconductor cluster investments and creating systemic improvements like the National Growth Fund. Fabless companies stressed the necessity of on-device NPU and requested active government support.
