The Personal Information Protection Commission established the ‘Personal Information Digital Forensic Center’ in the Seoul Government Complex and held an opening ceremony. This aims to enable quick and thorough investigation of increasing personal information leakage incidents.

From January to November this year, a total of 396 personal information leakage reports were received, which is about a 30% increase compared to the previous year. Approximately 64% of these leaks were due to hacking, with large-scale leakage incidents occurring continuously, increasing personal information violation threats rapidly.

The Commission invested approximately 1.6 billion KRW over 11 months to establish the Digital Forensic Center. The center specializes in collecting, analyzing, and managing digital evidence related to personal information leakage incidents caused by hacking.

As digital transformation accelerates, the Chair stressed the importance of securing and analyzing digital evidence and promised thorough investigations into repeated large-scale leakage incidents and holding violators accountable.
