The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy held a Petroleum Market Inspection Meeting on December 10 to review the current status of petroleum product prices. The meeting included participation from the ministry, four major refining companies, three economic supply companies, the Korea Petroleum Association, and others to discuss the fluctuations in domestic prices due to rising international petroleum product prices.

Over the past month, domestic petroleum product prices have sharply increased following the rise in international prices. However, domestic prices have maintained a steady trend in December. Despite this, the flexibility of domestic petroleum product prices has increased due to the recent rise in international prices of certain products.

In response, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy requested voluntary cooperation from the industry to prevent excessive price hikes that burden the public. Moreover, economic supply shops are urged to play a leading role in price stabilization. The ministry plans to continue operating the inter-ministerial petroleum market inspection team, involving the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Land, Fair Trade Commission, and others to maintain stable domestic petroleum product prices.

To enhance consumer convenience, the ministry plans to upgrade the Opinet mobile app, a petrol price information site, to provide customized petrol station information services.
