Madam Kim Hye-kyung hosted a kimchi-making event at the Korean culinary space ‘E-um’ in Jongno-gu, Seoul, inviting the spouses of foreign ambassadors in Korea. This event aimed to spread the Korean kimchi-making culture, recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013, amid the global K-food craze and to promote cultural harmony through kimchi and K-food exports.

The event was attended by the spouses of ambassadors from 11 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Thailand, and the UK, as well as Kimchi Master Lee Ha-yeon. Madam Kim explained that it is the culture of kimchi-making, not just kimchi, that has been recognized by UNESCO.

Madam Kim and the attendees participated in the kimchi-making experience under the guidance of Kimchi Master Lee Ha-yeon. The attendees prepared ingredients according to their dietary cultures, such as vegetarian and halal, and experienced Korean traditional food culture firsthand. During the tasting session, they enjoyed Korean dishes such as rice, boiled pork, tofu, and napa cabbage soybean paste soup, along with kimchi.

After the experience, Madam Kim introduced various types of kimchi and mentioned that President Lee Jae-myung’s favorite kimchi is Baek kimchi. The attendees showed great interest in the charm of kimchi and shared their impressions of the cultural harmony they felt through the kimchi-making experience.
