The government aims to establish infrastructure such as ports and ships to supply 4GW (gigawatts) of offshore wind power annually by 2030. On the 10th, the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment held the second meeting of the ‘Government-wide Offshore Wind Power Supply Acceleration Task Force (TF)’, announcing plans to expand infrastructure and supply offshore wind power.
This meeting involved various governmental departments such as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Financial Services Commission, along with domestic and international developers and manufacturers to discuss intermediate goals and specific execution plans for supplying over 25GW cumulatively by 2035 and achieving a generation cost of less than 150 won/kWh. The government will focus on expanding key infrastructure like ports, installation ships, and financial support for offshore wind power construction.
Ports capable of supporting offshore wind power will be adjusted and new support piers developed to handle 4GW annually by 2030. Additionally, the government plans to secure at least four 15MW-class installation ships (WTIV) by 2030 with private and public investment. Financial support will be considered through funds created with joint contributions from the National Growth Fund and financial institutions, expanding guarantees and loan limits to ensure business stability.
The government plans to establish the ‘Offshore Wind Power Promotion Team’ and launch it early within the year. The team will closely address issues such as key licensing support, conflict resolution, and infrastructure support, reducing project duration and strengthening policy execution. Consequently, the government aims to lower the offshore wind power generation cost to below 250 won/kWh by 2030 and below 150 won/kWh by 2035.
