President Lee Jae-myung remarked on December 10 regarding the semiconductor industry development strategy, “From the perspective of overseeing national policy, expanding the overall pie is a very important premise,” adding, “I hope that the pie would be distributed diversely to more people.” Attending the ‘AI Era Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy Report’ held at the presidential office in Yongsan in the afternoon, he mentioned that this direction could significantly benefit the growth of individual companies in the long run.

President Lee emphasized, “When digging a well, digging it narrow and small might be quicker but it will be challenging to dig deeper.” He expressed his hope to dig wider even if it takes time to dig deeper, as his desire as the top policy manager. He stated that South Korea should overcome temporary confusion and take a new leap forward, with the development of the industrial economy being crucial, particularly in the semiconductor sector where South Korea is competitive.

President Lee highlighted the importance of properly establishing the domestic industrial ecosystem and urged attention to the materials, parts, and equipment sectors, which rely heavily on overseas sources. He called for companies to contribute to balanced development, acknowledging the limitations of corporate goodwill under capital logic but introducing support measures such as taxation, regulation, and infrastructure for companies operating in line with the balanced development strategy.

He also urged focusing on turning to the southern regions rich in renewable energy to build new industrial ecosystems there, announcing that the government intends to introduce very innovative measures.
