First Lady Kim Hye-kyung hosted a kimchi-making event at the Han-sik Culture Space ‘Eum’ in Jongno-gu, Seoul, inviting spouses of foreign ambassadors to South Korea. The event aimed to promote Korea’s kimchi culture, which was inscribed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013, amidst the global K-food craze, and to foster cultural harmony through the export of kimchi and K-foods.

The event was attended by the spouses of ambassadors from 11 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Thailand, and the UK, along with Lee Ha-yeon, Korea’s famous kimchi artisan. Kim Hye-kyung explained the significance of kimchi inscribed as Intangible Cultural Heritage and welcomed the participants.

Kim Hye-kyung and the participants engaged in a kimchi-making experience guided by kimchi artisan Lee Ha-yeon. Each participant prepared ingredients suited to their culinary preferences and made kimchi, experiencing Korea’s traditional food culture. During the subsequent tasting session, various Korean dishes were served, and Kim introduced different types of kimchi, revealing that President Lee Jae-myung’s favorite kimchi is Baek-kimchi.

Concluding the event, Kim Hye-kyung expressed her gratification for sharing the kimchi-making experience with the spouses of ambassadors, hoping that people from different cultures can come together and that the richness of kimchi can be mirrored in cultural harmony.
