[2026-01-11]Customs Director Inspects Seoul Customs Clearance Center

Lee Jin-hee, Director of Customs Clearance at the Korea Customs Service, visited the Seoul Customs International Moving Cargo Clearance Center on January 9 to inspect the moving cargo clearance site. This visit was arranged to listen to the difficulties of the international moving cargo clearance site and to check the progress of the expansion of the moving cargo clearance inspection center, which is scheduled to be completed by August 2026.

The Seoul Customs International Moving Cargo Clearance Center is a key facility that handles about 75% of international moving cargo transported by sea. Since the center opened, the volume of cargo has been continuously increasing, and plans are in place to expand the clearance inspection center to a total area of 5,915m2 and introduce advanced equipment such as automatic cargo transfer systems to enhance the inspection system.

Once the expansion of the clearance inspection center is completed, the amount of containers that Seoul Customs can process in a day is expected to more than double, reducing the average clearance time for international moving cargo from four days to two days. Additionally, a clearance system will be established to conduct X-ray inspections immediately upon container arrival and thoroughly inspect suspicious cargo, thereby preventing the entry of hazardous items such as drugs and firearms, contributing to social safety.

During the site visit, Director Lee stated, “We will do our best to enhance the convenience of residents’ relocation and safeguard social safety through the successful expansion of the international moving cargo clearance inspection center.” He added, “We will continue to carefully address the inconveniences experienced by citizens during international moves and support swift and smooth clearance.”
