The 13th regular course entrance ceremony for diplomat candidates in 2026 was held on January 9 at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy. This year, a total of 42 diplomat candidates will complete various educational programs over approximately 11 months to cultivate essential diplomatic competencies, including public service ethics, diplomatic expertise, practical skills, and foreign language proficiency.
The regular course for diplomat candidates is a mandatory educational program conducted before the appointment of foreign service officers, targeting those who have passed the final selection exam for diplomat candidates. The 2026 regular course consists of three regular semesters and extracurricular activities (such as internships at headquarters and overseas missions). The Korea National Diplomatic Academy has strengthened participatory and discussion-based classes and practical skills training to enhance the professionalism and problem-solving abilities of diplomat candidates.
Korea National Diplomatic Academy President Choi Hyung-chan welcomed the diplomat candidates and urged them to participate in the educational program with responsibility and dedication. He emphasized the importance of nurturing diplomats who can serve the nation and its people during the transitional period of the international order, encouraging them to develop the ability to strategically analyze and solve international issues through creative thinking and fearless discussions.
Before the entrance ceremony, the diplomat candidates visited the Seoul National Cemetery to honor the sacrifices of patriotic martyrs and soldiers, solidifying their stance as future public officials and instilling patriotism in their hearts. The Korea National Diplomatic Academy will continue its efforts to nurture excellent diplomats who support practical diplomacy centered on national interests, preparing for the country’s future.
