On the 18th, the Ministry of National Defense held a meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force (TF) for nuclear-powered submarine construction, attended by senior officials from 10 related government ministries and agencies. The meeting focused on discussing various elements required for the construction of nuclear-powered submarines.
The participating organizations included the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Republic of Korea Navy.
The inter-agency task force was established considering that the nuclear-powered submarine project is a national strategic initiative closely related to military, diplomatic, and security sectors. The Ministry of National Defense plans to continue close cooperation with relevant agencies to systematically review various issues related to the project.
The Ministry also intends to gradually examine various matters related to nuclear-powered submarines and develop the task force into a continuous and systematic inter-agency body in collaboration with related ministries.
