[2025-12-19]Inter-Agency Task Force Meeting Held for Nuclear Submarine Construction

On the 18th, the Ministry of National Defense held a meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force (TF) for nuclear-powered submarine construction, attended by directors from 10 relevant government ministries and agencies. The meeting focused on discussing various elements required for the construction of nuclear-powered submarines.

The participating organizations included the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Republic of Korea Navy.

The task force was established considering that the nuclear-powered submarine project is a national strategic initiative closely related to military, diplomatic, and security sectors. The Ministry of National Defense plans to continuously develop this inter-agency task force in a systematic manner through ongoing collaboration with relevant agencies.

The Ministry of National Defense also stated that it will gradually review various issues related to nuclear-powered submarines in cooperation with relevant agencies. Inquiries can be directed to the Defense Policy Bureau, Power Policy Division (02-748-5610).
