The Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment aims to supply 100GW of renewable energy by 2030 by improving regulations on solar panel spacing and enacting special laws to promote agrivoltaics. Additionally, they plan to accelerate the transition to decarbonized energy by establishing the 12th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand and the 2040 Coal Power Transition Roadmap.
On the 17th, the ministry reported next year’s major work plans, announcing various strategies to leap into a decarbonized civilization. This was the first annual work report since the ministry’s establishment, focusing on decarbonization implementation strategies. Key points include expanding renewable energy supply, building energy highways, and promoting electric vehicle adoption.
The ministry plans to lay the foundation for a decarbonized civilization by implementing the 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). To achieve this, they will expand solar and wind power generation, enhance the acceptance of renewable energy by activating energy storage systems (ESS) and virtual power plants (VPP), and reform the electric vehicle subsidy system while expanding charging facilities.
To create a sustainable national environment where nature and humans coexist, the ministry is promoting various environmental protection policies, including realizing a plastic-free circular economy, solving algae problems, and strengthening measures against fine dust. Minister Kim Seong-hwan emphasized the importance of implementing the 2030 NDC and stated that they would create opportunities for industrial and economic leaps.
