[2025-12-16]Policy Forum on Promoting Battery Recycling to Be Held

The Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment announced that it will hold the ‘Battery Recycling Policy Forum’ on December 16 at the National Battery Recycling Cluster in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do. This forum is organized to share the current status of major policies for promoting the recycling of used batteries and to explore ways to foster the industry.

About 100 experts from electric vehicle and battery manufacturers, recycling and reuse companies, related associations and organizations, research institutions, and local governments are expected to attend the forum. In the first part, the current status of the user-customized corporate support platform of the National Battery Recycling Cluster, the direction of promoting the battery recycled material production certification system, and the status of establishing the electric vehicle lifecycle integrated environmental information center will be presented. A tour of the resource recycling research center within the cluster will also introduce battery performance and diagnostic equipment, and recycling demonstration facilities.

In the second part, the research results on the recycling value evaluation of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, the current status of research and development (R&D) in the field of used battery recycling, the expansion plan of the future waste resource collection center to strengthen industrial support, and the status of establishing the battery inline automatic performance evaluation center will be presented and discussed.

The Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment established the ‘Battery Recycling Promotion Plan’ last May, and this forum will share the progress of key tasks with industry-academia-research stakeholders and reflect on future policies and system improvements through in-depth discussions. Kim Go-eung, Director of the Resource Recycling Bureau of the Ministry, emphasized that the stable recycling of used batteries is directly linked to national competitiveness and stated that they will strengthen cooperation among industry, academia, and research to support domestic companies in gaining international competitiveness.
