In May this year, the 3rd meeting was held to discuss user protection issues due to the advancement of AI technology. The 4th meeting was attended by experts from ICT, media, statistics, academia, legal circles, consumer and civic groups, and related businesses.

Professor Hwang Yong-seok from Konkuk University gave a keynote speech on ‘Transparency in the AI Era and Technology-Based Self-Regulation Measures,’ emphasizing the need to set policy standards to ensure service transparency while minimizing unnecessary regulatory costs. The comprehensive discussion that followed involved council members from various fields discussing the growing social demand for AI service transparency and ways to enhance user rights.

Professor Lee Won-woo from Seoul National University noted that the rapid changes in broadcasting, media, and communications due to the spread of AI require changes in the existing user protection regulatory framework and policy approaches. The Broadcasting Media Communications Committee stated that it aims to create a safe and trustworthy AI utilization environment by establishing minimum transparency standards while eliminating unnecessary burdens that hinder innovation.
