On December 15, the government held the 33rd Information and Communication Infrastructure Protection Committee meeting at the Government Complex Seoul, presided over by Yoon Chang-ryul, head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination. This meeting was convened in response to recent large-scale security breaches, including hacking incidents involving SKT, KT, and the Coupang case, to review the information protection systems of relevant ministries managing major information and communication infrastructure and to raise awareness.
During the meeting, the current status of information protection by agencies responsible for major information and communication infrastructure was reviewed and related situations were shared. Additionally, the current status and future plans for responding to security breaches in both the private and public sectors were discussed.
Yoon Chang-ryul emphasized that in light of the recent consecutive hacking incidents and personal information leaks, which have heightened public anxiety, relevant ministries should be vigilant in protecting major information and communication infrastructure to prevent large-scale security breaches. He also urged thorough prevention measures and the strengthening of organic cooperation systems, including the mutual sharing of breach response technologies among institutions.
