[2025-12-15]Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Detected in Namwon, Jeonbuk

The Central Accident Response Headquarters for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza announced that on December 14, a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred at a broiler breeder farm in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do. On December 15, a meeting with relevant agencies and local governments was held to review the outbreak situation and strengthen quarantine measures.

On December 14, an increase in mortality was confirmed at a broiler breeder farm in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do, and a detailed examination confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza on December 15. This is the 11th outbreak of the ’25/’26 winter season and the second occurrence in broiler breeders. A total of 11 cases were detected in poultry farms and 15 cases in wild birds.

Upon confirmation of the H5 antigen at the broiler breeder farm in Namwon on December 15, the Central Accident Response Headquarters immediately dispatched an initial response team to control access and conducted culling and epidemiological investigations to prevent further spread. Additionally, a 24-hour standstill order was issued for adjacent areas and related farms and facilities, and compliance is being monitored.

To prevent and control further outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza, the Central Accident Response Headquarters is conducting detailed inspections and quarantine checks on farms affiliated with the same company. Special quarantine inspections are being carried out by local governments, and the nationwide intensive disinfection week has been extended to ensure thorough disinfection around migratory bird habitats and nearby poultry farms.
