The Broadcasting Media Communications Committee, which was launched last October, held its first briefing on major achievements for 2025 and future key tasks at the Government Sejong Convention Center in Sejong City on the 12th. This briefing focuses on national tasks such as ‘Restoring Media Publicity and Enhancing Media Sovereignty’ and ‘Building a Future-oriented Digital Media Ecosystem,’ consisting of three main areas and 15 detailed tasks.
The three main areas are creating a safe broadcasting media communications environment, promoting industrial innovation through the harmony of regulation and promotion, and strengthening media national sovereignty. To create a safe broadcasting media communications environment, they aim to respond to false information, strengthen transparency and fairness in communication services, respond to online illegal activities, create a safe internet usage environment, and provide prompt and unbiased disaster information.
To promote industrial innovation through the harmony of regulation and promotion, they plan to improve broadcasting media regulations, introduce AI and digital technology throughout the broadcasting media lifecycle, support local media and revitalize local economies, activate the digital media industry, and establish integrated media legislation. This includes improving broadcasting advertisement and programming regulations, developing AI technology for broadcasting media and enhancing production efficiency, establishing mid-to-long-term development strategies and program support, expanding youth employment and protecting digital creators, and enacting integrated legislation for broadcasting and OTT.
To strengthen media national sovereignty, they will ensure the establishment of a rational public broadcasting system and strengthen the responsibility of broadcasting reviews, guarantee media access rights, enhance digital media literacy education, promptly resolve disputes and improve unfair practices, and create a transaction environment that guarantees user rights. This briefing is the first report since the launch of the Broadcasting Media Communications Committee to actively respond to the rapidly changing digital media environment, and the committee stated that it will prioritize policies to alleviate public inconvenience while focusing on national tasks.
