[2025-12-13]Criminal Procedure Act Amendment Introducing Electronic Evidence Preservation Passed

The amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which introduces a system for requesting the preservation of electronic evidence to quickly secure evidence for cybercrimes such as digital sex crimes, passed the National Assembly plenary session on December 12.

This amendment includes measures to prevent the destruction or alteration of electronic evidence, allowing for the swift securing of crucial evidence in cybercrime investigations.

Additionally, this amendment completes the legislative implementation required for South Korea to join the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime.

As a result, the ability to respond to various cybercrimes, including digital sex crimes, is expected to be strengthened.
